Cards For Masculinity Discussion Prompt Deck

I run a program for women in trades and learned about these cards after hearing Trevor from NextGenMen speak at an apprenticeship conference this spring. I bought the three card decks ('Cards for Masculinity', 'Boys will be____' and 'Cards for Equity') along with the 'Male Ally Handbook' to leave out in the lunchroom at our training centre. I'm looking forward to walking into conversations that demonstrate how far we have come in construction culture. I also plan on using them as discussion thread prompts in our online courses to complement the Mentorship and Be More Than a Bystander Courses that every new apprentice completes.

Many of us have probably experienced the dinnertime "conversation" that is generated by many 13yo boys: one-syllable answers, perhaps a grunt or "u-huh" if you're lucky. Enter Cards for Masculinity! At the end of dinner, we choose a card and talk about it as a family. It's been an easy way to have more meaningful conversations and share each of our perspectives, and I learn something new about my husband and son almost every day because of them. I look forward to using Cards for Masculinity for years to come - thank you for this fantastic tool!

We recently used these cards in our Men's Behaviour Change Program in Australia and were so impressed. We found the questions thought provoking and so relevant in opening discussions about historically unspoken aspects of masculinity. Our participants were engaged, both in connecting the question to their own experiences but also that of other participants - actively listening to others and using curiosity to learn more through additional questions. I highly recommend these cards - they will definitely be on high rotation in our sessions. Thankyou!
